Printing Spools

What is a printing spool?

A print spooler is a type of software used to manage the printing process on computers. It allows multiple users to send print jobs to a printer and stores these jobs in an area called a “spool.” The print spooler provides for more efficient usage of the printer by managing the order in which those print jobs are sent to the printer. This can help reduce wait times for users who want to print documents or other items.

How does it work?

The print spooler works by taking any incoming print requests and putting them into an area called the “spool.” This area acts as a queue and stores all tasks that require printing. When it is time to execute each task, they are taken from the queue one by one and sent off to the printer. The entire process is automated, meaning that users do not have to manually sit and wait until their print task is completed in order for it to be printed out.
